Why Sports Massage?
With sports massage you get the benefits of a Swedish massage plus stretching plus advanced therapeutic techniques to help your body recover faster and after-massage results last longer. Why settle for less when you can get more?
I am not a professional athlete. Is sports massage for me?
Sports massage is for anybody who is serious about health and fitness; who takes care of their body through exercise and proper diet regularly. Besides, we believe there is an athlete in every one of us…if you work out, run, or strengthen your body in some way…you are an athlete. If you don’t exercise and stretch regularly, you will still benefit from a sports massage tremendously as it will make you more flexible in addition to relieving pain and ache.
What type of sports massage do I need?
If you are not preparing for a race or recovering from a race, then ‘Training +’ is the right massage type for you. It helps you to prepare for workouts, prevent sports-related injuries, and eliminate a lot of post-workout soreness. If you are about to run a marathon or just crossed the finish line, then ‘pre/post-finish line’ series are for you. If you want your tissues separated for peak performance, then try ‘Deep performance rollout’. If you want to experience the power of clinical bodywork rather than a massage, then Myofascial release sessions are a great choice.
How often should I get a sports massage?
It really depends on your goals. How serious are you about working out? How effective do you want your trainings to be? How fast do you want to recover after workouts so that you don’t skip them? Massage is a daily deal for professional athletes. They incorporate it every day for 15-30 min to recover faster or to substitute trainings. If you want to keep training seamlessly and prevent injuries, we recommend to incorporate massage into your life weekly or semi-weekly but do it in a smart way. Alternate focused sessions with full body sessions. Focused sessions are 15-45 min each and are very cost-effective. Schedule them weekly to keep your most active muscles in top shape. Full body sessions are 60-120 min long and focus on conditioning your entire body. They can be scheduled twice a month or monthly.
Do you offer deep tissue massage?
We do, but let’s briefly touch on that. Deep tissue is not the same as deep pressure when it comes to massage. Sometimes, clients request deep tissue when they actually mean deep pressure. When working with you, we first aim to understand what your focus is and then select proper techniques and pressure to address it. A top-notch therapist can use very light pressure to release a very deep-laying muscle. Deep pressure may not always be the right solution. So if you are striving to eliminate pain and soreness, then let your therapist know your goal and let them choose proper techniques and pressure for that. If, however, you are aiming for serious muscle and fascia separation, then ask for deep tissue work.
Can you help me with my issue?
We work with a wide variety of conditions caused by sports training or regular daily life. We work with muscle soreness, injuries, traumas, acute inflammation, post-surgical pain, trigger points, pain on movement, TMJ syndromes, neck issues, migraines, upper and lower back pain, shoulder pain, tendonitis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, IT band tightness, calf and Achilles tendon issues, hip pain and tightness, shin splints, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, tight plantar fascia, intercostal neuralgia, and many-many others. A whole lot. We choose the most effective techniques based on your goal for massage. But just to name a few: Trigger point therapy, Neuromuscular therapy, Myofascial therapy, Ortho-bionomy, Isolated Active Stretching, Active Release technique, Passive Release techniques, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation, Thermal therapy, Swedish therapy, Classic Russian therapy, Accupressure, Cupping, Aromatherapy, Guided imagery, Breath therapy, etc.
What is the best way to schedule an appointment?
Although we welcome walk-in clients, text/call, and Facebook appointment requests, the best way is to schedule online. Most of the time, we are working with clients and if you walk in or text, we may not be able to get back to you the very same minute. The best way to schedule is by going to www.massosportdc.com/services and clinking on the ‘Book’ button below the service of your choice.
Do you accept insurance or FSA cards?
At present, we don’t accept insurance for massages, however, we can issue a detail massage therapy letter for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Just ask us during your session. We do accept FSA cards. You can bring them to swipe:-)
Are you licensed to practice massage therapy?
We are fully licensed to practice massage therapy in Washington, D.C. We are also certified by the National Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
I had chronic tension in my upper and lower back. My first visit yielded immediate results with subsequent visits greatly improving my overall comfort in my back and shoulders. A visit starts with a question and answer followed by a session that is organized around my needs at the time. I continue to be impressed with a broad library of techniques they utilize and knowledge as to the areas of the body that are in need of manipulation.
—B. Doletski, Washington, DC.
After 24 years of working with massage therapists in the Chiropractic profession, I recently had the best massage experience ever. Ana knows innately how to address a variety of musculoskeletal conditions. All of my patients who have seen her, related significant, measurable improvement in their conditions on the follow up office visits with me. In my professional and personal opinion, I cannot recommend her highly enough.
